The Sign-Up Sheet is now available! Individuals can add themselves to the schedule up until the event starts, at which point a hard copy will be at the recording space itself and sign-ups can be done in person.
The recording equipment will be set up in the boathouse. It will consist of a single condenser mic hooked up to a laptop and at least one set of headphones. The software being used is the same software being taught in the recording classes offered, but taking the class is not a requirement. There will be very basic instructions in the form of a handout that will stay with the laptop. The intent is to have essentially a sophisticated tape recorder and not to do processing on site.
Please note, the boathouse has 3 steps. If you require an accessible space for recording, please email the coordinator, Silence de Cherbourg, at silencethebard(at)gmail.com to schedule so we can make sure you are accommodated! There are accessible options for spaces we can move the equipment to for you to record.
The recording space and equipment will be available Saturday morning through Sunday night. The time slots are 30 minutes each, and you can sign up for consecutive slots if you like, though we’re asking folks to limit to 2 slots to start with.
Bringing a buddy: One of the keys to getting a good recording is having your volume, or your “levels”, at the right spot. Recording equipment will “clip”, causing a staticky sound, if what you’re recording gets too loud. Getting all your volume settings dialed in appropriately is the first step before recording, and it’s helpful to have someone to help you with that so you don’t have to watch the screen while you’re recording. “Sound engineer” is the fancy term, but for this simple of a set up, all your helper needs to do is keep an eye on your volume and turn a knob or two so that you’re loud enough to show up on the sound file but not so loud that you clip. (The software will show you with big red lights when you clip.) You can do it by yourself if you can’t find a helper, it just requires being able to multitask a bit.
After the event, you will be given a link to download your raw audio files.
Any questions, please email Silence or contact her on site.
